What is IVV?

iShares Core S&P 500 ETF (IVV) tracks the S&P 500 Index at a low 0.03% expense ratio. It's the second-largest ETF by assets and one of three major S&P 500 ETFs alongside SPY and VOO.

IVV vs SPY vs VOO

All three track the same S&P 500 Index with virtually identical performance. IVV and VOO charge 0.03% vs SPY's 0.09%. IVV is structured as an ETF (not a UIT like SPY), allowing dividend reinvestment. For buy-and-hold investors, IVV and VOO are the best choices.

Why iShares S&P 500?

IVV benefits from BlackRock's securities lending program, which can partially offset the expense ratio. Combined with its ETF structure (vs SPY's UIT), IVV tends to track the S&P 500 slightly more efficiently over long periods.
