QAT: Qatar's LNG Wealth

The iShares MSCI Qatar ETF provides access to the equity market of the world's wealthiest country per capita. Qatar's economy is built on its massive natural gas reserves, which power the world's largest LNG export operation.

LNG Superpower

Qatar controls the North Field, the world's largest natural gas reservoir. QatarEnergy is expanding LNG capacity from 77 to 126 million tons per year by 2027, cementing Qatar's dominance in the global gas trade. While QatarEnergy is state-owned, the broader Qatari economy benefits enormously from these revenues.

Beyond Gas

Qatar is actively diversifying through its sovereign wealth fund (QIA), investing in global brands, real estate, and technology. The domestic market features Qatar National Bank (the Middle East's largest bank by assets) and Industries Qatar.

Frequently asked questions

How does Qatar benefit from the energy transition?

Natural gas is considered a transition fuel with lower carbon intensity than coal and oil. Qatar's massive LNG expansion positions it to benefit as countries shift from coal to gas as an intermediate step toward renewable energy.
